Chlorophyll Water: A Natural Treatment for Hormonal Acne?

AKA Miracle Drops!

I have hormonal acne. The trickiest kind of acne to have, IMO.

There are SO many misconceptions and myths about what causes acne and or what makes it worse/better/go away. Anyone with skincare troubles knows that it's not that simple, especially those with hormonal acne.

How do you know if you have hormonal acne? One major giveaway for hormonal acne is where the most persistent breakouts occur on your face. For hormonal acne, it's typically the lower third of the face: around the jawline, chin, and mouth area. Hormonal acne tends to manifest as the cystic, painful under the skin bumps and blemishes that seem to take FOREVER to disappear.

Hormonal acne isn't as simple as washing your face and slapping on some moisturizer. Often, even topical acne treatments deliver very limited results. With hormonal acne, we've got to treat the issue from the inside out and target the root cause: hormonal imbalance. Balancing hormones naturally (aka while trying to avoid BC) is a challenge and a half! Often, doctors and dermatologists will recommend birth control to those suffering from hormonal acne (trust me, we're suffering!) but some of us would prefer to try a natural treatment for balancing out our hormones.

The solution for me has been -- "GREEN WATER!" aka CHLOROPHYLL WATER! I was turned onto the stuff when I received "Detox Water" from a brand named Sakara. They touted it as especially great for hangovers. I tried it and it does work! This piqued my curiosity, and as a natural detective I had to dig deeper and see what else I could find on the subject of chlorophyll water.

What I found out made me decide to buy chlorophyll drops and add them to my water.

LIQUID CHLOROPHYLL BENEFITS:

  • Oxygenates the Blood — if you have altitude sickness, this is a must!

  • Detoxes & Cleans Your Blood — think pollutants, toxins, and even some carcinogens!

  • Speeds Up Your Metabolism

  • Helps with Digestion

  • Safe & Natural Energy — if you’re trying to kick/limit caffeine, this might be worth a try!

  • Promotes Hormonal Balance

  • & So much more. Do a quick Google search and be amazed!

Chlorophyll is considered a superfood. It's basically an internal cleanser. Even Supermodel Miranda Kerr swears by the stuff.

Chlorophyll is found in plants. It's what makes them green. But it's difficult to get enough chlorophyll to produce the kinds of results listed above by simply eating more greens. Of course, a healthy diet is always encouraged.

✨ What's it taste like? It's got a slight minty taste as most of the drops I've come across have peppermint in them which isn't unpleasant at all. It tastes a hell of a lot better than green juice, if that's what you're thinking. It doesn't taste "green." If I'm feeling fancy, I'll add the drops to sparkling water and throw in some lemon, but it's totally more than tolerable even in plain water. Follow the instructions on the back.

✨ What did I notice? As far as my skin goes, I noticed that after a few days my skin looked so much calmer and less inflamed, within about 24-48 hours. This encouraged me to keep it up as this is the best my skin has looked in a while. As I said, my skin was looking like hell and this was definitely a life-saver.

Drinking chlorophyll water has become a part of my (almost!) daily routine. If I'm on the go, I just bring the drops with me in my purse. Yes, I prefer to use stainless steel straws whenever possible because it's better for the planet. They're inexpensive, reusable, and chic!

If you try it, let me know! Take a pic and tag me on instagram @jessicaharlow.

*DISCLAIMER: I'm not a doctor. This isn't meant to be medical advice. As with anything you're ingesting, consuming, etc. check with your physician and do your own research. Everyone is different. While chlorophyll seems to be quite safe, it's important to always do your own research, caution, and ask your doctor. The most serious side-effect I've come across so far is sun sensitivity, which I haven't noticed or experienced in myself. Again, I cannot stress it enough -- do your own research, too.
